From a moonlit walk in rural Ghana to a 120-acre vision for sustainable community transformation.

"My journey to becoming the custodian of 120 acres of land at Ashifla began with a vision that took shape many years ago."
In 1989, I travelled outside Greater Accra for the first time — to Leklebi Duga, a quiet village in Ghana's Volta Region. The village had no electricity, and by 6:00 p.m. most residents had retired for the evening. That night, I walked beneath a full moon, struck by the tranquillity, natural beauty, and grounded simplicity of rural life.
Chapter One
A Dream Born Under the Moonlight
During that walk, I made a quiet but lasting promise to myself: one day I would retire to a rural community and give back to its development. Not as a visitor — as a partner.
My dream was to work alongside local people, especially women and young girls, to establish cooperatives, build capacity, and create opportunities for sustainable economic growth. A community shaped, owned, and led by the people who call it home.
Chapter Two
How the Ashifla Journey Began
Twenty years later, in 2009, the vision began to take shape. A long-time friend of my father from the Methodist Church invited me to visit his hometown and support local development initiatives. While waiting for him to arrive, I travelled further along the road — and had a chance encounter with the chiefs of Ashifla.
That meeting became life-changing. We quickly developed a strong relationship built on a shared vision for the future of Ashifla. Over time, that partnership grew deeper, and it ultimately led to the acquisition of 120 acres of land dedicated to community development projects.

The Challenges Ashifla Seeks to Address
Rural Ghana holds extraordinary promise — but generations have been held back by gaps in opportunity, infrastructure, and access. This is where our work begins.
Youth migration from rural communities to urban centres in search of better opportunities.
Adult illiteracy and limited access to educational resources.
Inadequate social amenities and essential community infrastructure.
Lack of sporting and recreational facilities for young people.
Limited access to quality education, early childhood development, and healthcare.
Absence of Senior High Schools, vocational, and technical training institutions.
The Land
120 Acres Dedicated to Community Transformation
The 120-acre Ashifla site provides a unique opportunity to implement initiatives that address rural challenges directly, empower local residents, and create lasting social and economic impact for future generations.
The land is held in trust for sustainable development across five integrated community pillars — designed to work together, not in isolation.
